On roads No. 4, 33, 35, 42, and 47, or M3 highway leading to Görbeháza, and from Görbeháza M35 highway directly leading to Debrecen. The duration of such a journey from the capital is approximately 2-2,5 hours. At the same time other regional centres can be reached Debrecen: you can reach Miskolc and Nyíregyháza – and through them Slovakia and Ukraine – on highways M35 and M3, or M30. Nevertheless, Debrecen is also a gate to Romania, which you can reach directly on road No. 47 towards the border town of Ártánd. more information |
Debrecen is the economic centre of the North Great Plain Region, and as a result, all the significant financial service providers present in Hungary are also represented in the city. There are (as of September 2008) a total of 36 bank branches and 87 ATMs (most of which can be used night and day) within the area of the city.
Health industry: Debrecen and its metropolitan region has traditionally strong “health industry”, including pharmaceutics, spa and health tourism, medical equipment manufacturing, organic food producing. The local health industry employing approx. 10,000 people at the time and looking for highly qualified foreigners with life science education.
In Debrecen and the surrounding settlements, there are many good quality houses and flats to rent or buy in several places (their number can be estimated at several thousands). In the past few years, the housing supply has increased significantly in Debrecen, as several new residential districts have been established, providing numerous, well-equipped, empty flats. There are also on-going apartment building and row-house investments.
Possibilities of spending leisure time in and around Debrecen
Debrecen provides numerous opportunities for making the most of your leisure time, but this can also be said of the immediate and larger environment of the city. Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary, and the capital of the Northern Great Plain region comprising three counties. However, several functions of the city surpass the borders of the region, in many aspects it plays a national and cross-border role as well.

In the academic year 1987-1988, just before the political transformations in Hungary, only 38% of the students in the secondary schools operated by the Municipality of Debrecen studied English and 19% of the graduates took their final exam in English as well. By comparison, in the academic year 2007-2008, 71% of the students studied English and 59% of the graduates also took their final exam in English.
